Bird on the Rocks
I will be spending a good part of my Saturday at the dentist and carving out this bird stamp based on a design I painted on a rock last year.

It will be a beautiful stamp. I admire how much detail you put in yours. I hate going to the dentist. They were so behind last time I was there that I had to go for a walk to calm me down. Maybe I should have tried stamp carving! ;)

I am so happy - your book arrived!! I spent over an hour with it today (and it was a very, very busy day) and every page was gorgeous and inspiring! I probably have 2 dozen books on my wish list, but as soon as I saw that your book was available I "one-clicked" it without thinking twice. :)
This stamp is going to be beautiful! I have a couple of questions (I understand if you don't have time to respond right now). First, what kind of carving block are you using here? Do you have a stash of MasterCarve from before they stopped selling it or is this something else?
Second (and this is more of a request for a post or tutorial), do you have any tips for carving tiny positive dots, such as eyes/pupils? I rarely get them right - either they aren't perfect circles (though I turn the material while holding the smallest V blade still), I gouge them out by accident, or I get different sizes for each eye/pupil. I think maybe it just takes practice and a steady hand, but if you have any tips at all I would really appreciate it!
Thank you for writing and designing the book! It is just terrific! I hope it sells like hotcakes (never really understood that phrase, but whatever). I'd love to see a book about painting/mixed-media by you or even just an art book of your work. I love this blog and I'm always excited when I see your work in a book, for instance "Drawing Lab" by Carla Sonheim (I was re-reading it a couple of months ago after I had discovered this blog and was so excited to read your profile page!) and "Water Paper Paint".

I already purchased your book from my local rubber stamp store. I thought about putting it on my "wish list" for Christmas but decided I could NOT WAIT that long. So I snapped it up for myself. LOVE IT! But I haven't tried carving any stamps yet. I'm in the middle of another project and am making myself finish it before I start trying to carve my own stamps. Looking forward to trying it!

Oh My Goodness! I just finished watching all of your videos of painting a bird and I am sitting here in awe! Your birds are so beautiful. We have just retired to a home in my hometown and I want to call it Bird Song because I can finally feed & watch all of the birds here in NW Pennsylvania. Just received your new book! Love the ideas and the inspiration! You would love White Line Printing on Balsa wood if you love to carve,as the grain of the wood when printing is beautiful. I used watercolors and sumi paper to print.

Sadly, Mastercarve seems to no longer be available. Any ideas for an alternate carving material? I LOVE your new book. It is one of my favorite books I have purchased all year!
